Born in 1860 in Kalischt, in Austrian Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic, Mahler's music has come to be regarded by many as the pinnacle of romanticism. Combining the sounds of his youth - Bohemian bands, trumpet calls, marches, and jewish folk song - with a symphonic style inherited from the german lineage of great composers Bruckner, Wagner, and Beethoven, Mahler's bittersweet melodies and harmonies speak to the soul and touch the emotions with a depth of feeling unlike any other composer. Join the London Arts Orchestra with Music Director Edward Farmer and Baritone Luke. D Williams, as we explore the early music of this symphonic master.
